LITTLE NEAL & THYE BLUE FLAMES: HIGH SCHOOL COSH

After three years, here and now the brand new album ( 12 tracks ) of Berlin’s own Little Neal & the Blue Flames. Well, it tooks ( again) around a year between the recordings and their release ( all songs been recorded in july and November 2007 ), but this album rocks big way. Just the coverartwork ( by Spooky Sally ) is a real winner, but what counts is the music. Little Neal deliver 12 tunes and a right mix between coverversions and selfpenned tunes. They placed two well chosen covers ( “ Willa Mae” and “You Can’t Catch Me” ) as first tracks to upbeat the release as best as they can – well done. With “ Referee Of Love” and “High School Cosh” two selfpenned tunes follow straight, in typical Little Neal mood and “ High School Cosh” rocks straight in your face. “ Music To My Ear” is an nice cover again but real highlights are the next four songs ( all selfpenned ) where I prefer most “Oh! Pleasure Me” – great uptempo tune – and “ Engine Trouble”. The cover of “ You Don’t Love Me” is one of the best covers Little Neal & The Blue Flames ever recorded so far – ace stuff - followed straight by one of the best selfpenned tunes of the band “ She’s Good Enough” – a top notch rocker!!! “ Kept An Eye On You” is the right rockin’ tune to close this album. Well, I really must say that this band stepped forward through the years and really expanded their musical tastes a lot. Just focused on Rockabilly in their early years , they are now an “ matured” band, specially since they include more and more piano.
